SBU Synthetic Biology Society

The Stony Brook Synthetic Biology Society provides students an environment to learn more about the growing field of synthetic biology and its different branches, including genetic engineering, biotechnology, electrical engineering and computer science. The Synthetic Biology Society allows students to stay connected to research while fostering scientific growth and development in the field of synthetic biology. This organization aims to make scientific phenomena more accessible to students by running demos and experiments on everyday items to see their inner workings. The Synthetic Biology Society acts as a bridge between professors and students by promoting on-campus research as well as will introduce high school students to synthetic biology topics and related opportunities at Stony Brook University.

Vice President

Synthetic Biology Society

The mission of iGEM at Stony Brook is to expose students to the growing field of synthetic biology. Selected students will be given the chance to work on a project as a group that they will work on over the summer. Once the project is completed, students will go on to compete at the annual international competition at the beginning of November where they will have the chance to meet likeminded students from all over the world

English Pal

English Pal gives international undergraduate and graduate Stony Brook students the opportunity to practice their conversational English in a casual setting with a native English speaker. At the same time, domestic students will be able to meet and learn from people of different cultures and languages. Each international student is paired with a native English speaker based on their application submissions, which provides insights on their interests, school year, and availability. Events are held throughout a full semester to allow pals to meet with other pals, in addition to creating a diverse community within the campus.
